Postcards

It's been a while since I showed any fiber postcards.  I've missed a month here and there, but I'm still trying to swap about once a month.

Here are some of the latest:

P5240011

I made this card for Winsome in the UK.  Our theme was fashion.

P6160010

And here is the one I received from Winsome.

P7050017

Then I signed up for a swap using felted fibers.  Some of the swappers have Embellishers, but I tried some needle felting by hand.

P7220001   I sent my postcard to Judy in Australia and this is the one she sent to me.  She was also in a swap with a Fireworks theme, so she combined those two elements.  It has a lot more sparkle in "real" life.

Wednesday WOW - July 28

July28

I finished a project today (one I can't show yet.  Sorry!), so I spent some time experimenting in EQ7.   I signed up for a class on Quilt University but wasn't able to finish all the lessons.  Now I will!

Essence of the Sea

My Traveling Page for June was a little late . . . and I'm even later posting about it here.  I think it's worth the wait, though.  I had all kinds of fun working on this one!

This page was for Mandy and her theme is the Sea.

P7040004

P7040009I’ve always had a deep affection for the sea. I suspect I would have chosen it for my theme if I had not already declared Doors! I was born and raised in Kansas – and have returned to it after years away – so I can’t really explain how I feel about ocean waves and sea creatures. The sea seems to cleanse my soul when I stand on the beach and I treasure memories of many vacations at the shore.

P7040010

I have always wanted to do a piece featuring the seahorse. I started with the image from a seahorse stamp – sent to me by a friend when I admired her work – and stitched it on a separate piece of linen.

P6280001

For the blue coral, I free motion stitched on dissolvable film and then tacked the finished product down before adding the seahorse.

P7040008 For texture I twisted netting and couched it down and used an eyelash yarn in feather stitch. Once these main elements were in place, I went slightly crazy with embroidery stitches and beads! That’s my favorite part of working any piece.

P7040007

Sometimes the back of the page is almost a disappointment after all the foofooraw on the front.  But this ocean print was made just for this project!

As often happens, this piece did not turn out exactly the way I had pictured it in my head. However, some areas are even better than I thought possible! At least I think so.   I hope Mandy does too.

July page is almost finished!  Just in time to start August.  LOL!

The Hoffman Challenge

Well, she has been shipped off and arrived safely.  The entry deadline was yesterday and now all I can do is wait!  The hardest part, of course!

Primary_Challenge_Fabric_288

I could share pictures with you.  I don't think there are any rules about posting photos before the judging.  Some challenges/ contests do request that.  I know you want to see her - and I want to show her off!

P5310002

But.  I suppose I'm superstitious.  I feel uncomfortable putting her in the public eye before the judges have seen her.  It could jinx her chances.  Well, the logical side of my brain says not, but who listens to that side anyway??  LOL!

So, perhaps I can make it up to you by posting a review of past Hoffman entries.  Follow the links to see more information on the two most recent.

P7130009 Percy & Pegwyn 2008

P7110001 Bella Rose 2007

P1010013 Ulani 2006

Always interesting to see how my techniques have evolved.  Once this year's winners have been announced, I will post.  I promise!

Happy 20 Years

The doll club I belong to had a big celebration this past weekend.

Twenty years ago this month, a group of ladies decided they were having so much fun taking a cloth doll class that they wanted to keep doing it!  They formed the Pin-Ella-Ps and have been meeting and crafting and sharing ever since.

P7170010

We celebrated by inviting previous members to join us for a day of remembering.  We had a lot of dolls - both old and new - to share with each other.

There were long lost friends to greet

and picture albums to go through.

P7170019

A lot has changed in 20 years.  We meet in a different building now, but we gathered in front of the original meeting place for a photo.  The church has been many things, including a quilt shop, and is now a private residence . . . so we had to be good!

I am one of the "new kids" in this group, but they feel like family to me.  Dollmakers are just like that I guess.  I'm so glad they got together all that time ago.  It really was a good idea!

M.I.A.

missyou

Some of you might have noticed I haven't been around very much lately.  I've been here, but not here.  Know what I mean? Well, what can I say?  Life can take you by surprise sometimes.

jester

Once upon a time (in a land far away), I thought that if I could manage my time well enough and keep working hard, things would turn out pretty well the way I expected.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!  Wasn't I the naive one?

Now I know that Life is an unpredictable adventure - more like a roller coaster, full of ups & downs and loops and OMG what was that????  Then, there is that lovely calm stretch so you can catch your breath.  And when you look back you realize how much fun that was and you want to go again!  Sometimes I wonder about that!  LOL!

rollercoaster

Whatever.  I think I'm back amongst you all again.  I have been working on lots of fun projects which I hope to share with you soon.

See that teensy clean spot in the middle?  That's where my doll for the Hoffman Challenge was.  Finished her - I think.  Now to get her shipped off.
